      Welcome

Mark Chisnell is a writer, broadcaster and sometime professional racing sailor. He's published nine works of award winning fiction and non-fiction, written for some of the world’s leading magazines and newspapers, including Esquire and the Guardian, and blogged and commentated on everything from the Volvo Ocean Race to the World Match Racing Tour.

On the way, he has also won three offshore sailing world championships, and sailed as navigator with five America’s Cup teams - but is now particularly proud to be a Records Consultant for Guinness World Records.

      The Maritime Thrillers

Both of my two maritime thrillers are now available as eBooks - click on the titles to download free copies of The Defector, and The Wrecking Crew from those lovely people at Smashwords.com - or click here for more information.

There is also an audiobook version of The Defector - for links to all five parts, click on The Defector, or use the Download page.

‘This is a remarkable thriller – chillingly violent, full of tension and with a very original ending.’

      Spanish Castle to White Night

Winner - Sportel Monaco 2009 Award

      Best Illustrated Book

Bernard Cornwell had this to say about Spanish Castle to White Night:

"I doubt I'll ever circle the globe in a racing boat, and I'm not sure I even want to, but Mark Chisnell has made the experience real. This is a marvellous book about a great adventure, and anyone fascinated by sailing should have it on their shelf."

      Match Racing TV

The World Match Racing Tour is taking up a lot of of 2010. It's a ten event series on three continents - and I'll be blogging, commentating and working with Red-Handed TV on the television shows. If you missed the first one on Sky or Eurosports, then you can always watch Match Race Germany on Sail.tv - check out Twitter for event and transmission updates....

      On the Blog...

Elsewhere on the site, some (slightly dated) highlights from my own much-neglected blog include this story on the thirtieth anniversary of the tragic 1979 Fastnet Race. Then there are a couple of accounts of attempts to round Cape Horn, starting with an oldie but goodie, the Smeetons 1958 voyage. Compare and contrast with this more recent account of Commodore Explorer's extraordinary rounding in 1993. Follow that with this story of some rather frightening new research on rogue waves.
