Dumb luck, tall tales and the confidence tightrope
a keynote talk by Mark Chisnell
Dumb luck, tall tales and the confidence tightrope uses first-hand stories from the great ocean races to better understand why people get into trouble, and how we could all do better to avoid it. By examining incidents in the 1979 Fastnet Race and the 1993 Sydney Hobart Race, Chisnell explores the role of confidence, particularly too much of it, in our lives.
The material is derived from Chisnell’s recent book, Knowledge 2.0 – Staying Afloat in the Information Age, and has been featured in Yachting Monthly, Yachting World, Sailing World and PBO.
‘Engaging, informative, interesting, knowledgeable, thought-provoking, humorous, and easy listening about what some may consider a difficult topic of discussion’
Rick White, Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club
‘The entire presentation was compelling and supported by excellent visual and audio prompts.’
